 "I Am Hooked" 2009-04-30

This is the second book I have read from this author and loved both of them. She writes with a "light touch" than does not drag you down, but the story, plot and characters are just too fascinating to put the book down. The two books I have read had humor to make you laugh as well as characters to love and hate and plots that made you hold your breath for an instance. I would recommend this author to anyone who loves mysteries, good characters and a story that is easy to read but get caught up in

 "Not Great" 2009-02-08
By A Reader
I think what detracted from this book was the fact that Cate was not a likeable character, her sex life notwithstanding. And the romance was anything but -- we never saw it develop, and we had a cop that we were told is the straightest shooter around buying into her conspiracy theories and running off after invisible culprits on Cate's word alone.

All in all, a disappointing read.

 "Dreams and Nightmares" 2009-02-03
By Jeffrey Clinard (Las Vegas, NV USA)
Cate has made it; at just 39 she's become a federal judge. However, a high profile case forces her to choose the law over justice, and it sends her world into a tailspin. Her secret sex life is exposed and when both the men in the case end up dead in what seems to be a murder / suicide a rouge cop who stood to gain by the lawsuit thinks she's the killer.

But the book falls down in many places. Three day waiting periods for guns are ignored, and the real killer really didn't have the strong enough motivation to kill in the first place. The main cop ignored the evidence, while the rouge cop explained it to the person he thought was behind the crime.

Overall it is a mishmash. Yeah, the story of the judge with her secret sex life is fun, and her legal problems are interesting if underexplored. Unfortunately, if the gender was reversed and the judge was s single male who picked up sleazy women nobody would really care. The book is a good read, but Lisa really needs to focus on the prime issue.

 "Well-written and tightly-plotted" 2008-10-10
By Debra Hamel (TwitterLit.com)
The dirty blonde of Lisa Scottoline's title is 39-year-old Cate Fante. By day a respected district court judge,Cate prowls Pennsylvania's seedier bars by night in search of hot sex with disreputable strangers. Naturally, Cate's secret doesn't stay a secret for long. Her private life spills onto the front pages shortly after sentencing in a high-profile trial, a case involving the Law and Order-like drama Attorneys@Law. The revelation jeopardizes Cate's professional life as well as a budding romantic relationship. In short order more or less everything that could go wrong in her life does, and Cate finds herself scrambling to save her reputation and, ultimately her life. She's helped along by a devoted cast of characters--mother-figure Val, her secretary; a pair of not-quite competent law clerks; and her old friend Gina, who's left the law business to take care of her autistic son Warren.

Granted, Scottoline's sexy storyline may make this a book you'll want to camouflage with a newspaper on the subway. And granted, Cate's behavior does seem hard to believe at times--both the promiscuous sex and some of her subsequent actions when dealing with its exposure. But the book is a well written and tightly-plotted page-turner, with just the right amount of characterization of the principals for this sort of a novel. Even weighing in at over 400 pages Dirty Blonde is a quick read. I may not remember much of the plot in a month's time, but I was happy to read it, and I'd be happy to read more from Scottoline.

 "A Judge with a Secret Life" 2008-09-17
By Gerald Swimmer (Rye, New York United States)
Dirty Blonde is a very entertaining page turner. Cate is an interesting character. She was not perfect and did have a mean streak. She was real although her insights were at times hard to believe.

The story moves along very well. It also has some interesting side characters such as her friend's son Warren and the moral issue involving whether Cate should sue the Court. As other reviewers said the end was not satisfying. I admit I did not see who did it early on which may only prove I am not as sophisticated a reader. I also thought her trip to her home and the issues concerning her early life was a distraction from the story and did not add much

This was first Scottoline book and I will read more in the future.
